The last Vietnam War that i finished reading Stanley Karnow's Vietnam History isn't quite as enlightening as George Herring's or Halberstam's. It seems the account of the war became too repetitive, speaking about the tone set within the same room, lacking the bigger picture atmosphere that had all too much been in other historical narratives. I don't know. i guess i'm sick reading that American lost the war because of its arrogance, ignorance, and no retreat gung-ho attitude. I didn't take for granted that America did pay the hefty price for managing the war the wrong way. But as I said, the war is a matter of management as much as it is a historical ambition. Bush can say all he want about a democratic Middle East with Iraq as its pillar. But how the generals and officials manage its war will decide the cornerstone of its success. Policy has its dimension in nation building, long term strategic planning, both at regional and local layer of society. Yet its Westmoreland, Powell, Rumsfeld that eventually decide the path of its success.
