I have a new habit listening to audio books these days. The traffic has become more and more unbearable and since nothing could be done to avert or resolve it, i guess something has to be done to the way i see it. Traffic is a way of life in this city, sort of like the cost of living, except of course you almost get no value in return. Obama's Dreams From My Father is a reflective account of his journey searching for his identity in a perplexing world of racism and injustice. The voice of the author is well-tempered, fair, and characterized by profuse common sense. 'A man gotta take life by its own terms' his Indonesian stepfather used to say. 'Your grandpa and I feel that we have to treat people decently, that's all' his grandmother straightly replied upon his puzzlement of white folks' discrimination behaviors. They are all the common senses that we all took for granted all too often. I came upon those lines deeply reflecting whether to believe such a man exist. The President of the United States suddenly talking in common conversational tone, explaining the daily semantic that we were too busy or ignorant to understand.
I am listening to this audiobook for the second time, to get a fuller grasped of the values. There were so many useful things being said that i'm not sure if i could churn the whole ideas and imprint it permanently in my mind. But, best to give it a try then to forgo the enterprise altogether. Afterall, what's there to lose right?
